Brighton has a substantial Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transvestite or LGBT community and a high number of "scene" shops, bars and night-clubs in addition to a range of support organisations. It is often referred to as "the gay capital of Britain" and Brighton hosts a Gay Pride carnival every August.
